Perfecting the Saints
We are upon this earth having made covenants with our Father in heaven in the Preexistence to do cretin things. A mission, life goals a challenge to figure out what that is right?
Lets take a minute to explore the word perfect.
per·fect        adjective
Having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be:
"life certainly isn't perfect at the moment"
synonyms:      ideal, model, without fault, faultless, flawless
â–ª free from any flaw or defect in condition or quality; faultless:
"the equipment was in perfect condition"
synonyms:      flawless, mint, as good as new, pristine, impeccable,
â–ª precise accurate; exact: "a perfect circle"
synonyms:      exact, precise, accurate, faithful, correct
â–ª highly suitable for someone or something; exactly right:
"with a little help you can create a room that is perfect for you"
Many Prophets have spent there lives working with the body of the church trying to help them take the steps necessary to obtain perfection. Thankfully they have recorded their words in the scriptures. We know that we are supposed to become perfect. The question is how do we do it? How do we become this great perfect being like our Father in Heaven and like our elder brother Jesus Christ? This is a point of doctrine that has frustrated many and even caused some to to become so frustrated with their own struggles and imperfections that they give up and say it isn't possible. If it wasn't possible then why would our Lord give us the commandment to be perfect? If our Lord commands us then he provides a way according to Nephi 3:7
7 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.
We know it is possible because he commanded it and He is providing a way.
I want to ask you do you know anyone who has accomplished this commandment and has become perfect?
We do know some good people though perfect they aren't so lets look to those Prophets and go to the scriptures. Anyone perfect that we know of in the history of the world?
.Genesis 5: 22,24 Enoch walked with God. I am confident that walking with God means your living your life the right way.
In Genesis 6:9 Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, Noah walked with God.
Ether 3: 9-13 The Lord showed himself unto the Brother of Jared because of his exceeding faith.
We have our Lord Jesus to look to as an example. He taught us many things just as he taught the people in 3 Nephi and 4 Nephi 1:15-16
15 And it came to pass that there was no contention in the land, because of the love of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people.
16 And there were no envyings, nor strifes, nor tumults, nor whoredoms, nor lyings, nor murders, nor any manner of lasciviousness; and surely there could not be a happier people among all the people who had been created by the hand of God.
let us look in Matthew chapter 5 the sermon on the mount
How do the blessings come, Poor in spirit, Those that mourn, Meek, Hunger and thirst after righteousness, Merciful, Pure in Heart, Peacemakers, Persecuted for righteousness sake,
The Poor in spirit are they that Mourn. The mournful are the Meek. The Meek are they that Hunger and thirst after righteousness. Those that hunger and thirst after righteousness are Merciful and those that are merciful are the Pure in Heart. Those that are pure in heart are the peacemakers. The Peacemakers are persecuted for righteousness sake.
If men revile against you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely for Christ's sake blessed are you.
Are you blessed?
We have commandments that we were given to lead us to perfection
One of those are the gathering of the saints
Temple work
Tithing
Celestial marriage
Consecration
Love one an other as I have loved you
10 Commandments don't steal or commit adultery etc.
And yes, to be Perfect is a commandment
Matt 5: 48 Be ye Perfect , even as your Father in heaven is perfect.
3 Nephi 12: 48 Therefore I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect.
Moroni 10: 32-33
32 Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.

33 And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot.

Joseph Smith Jr said " to the item or subject of the
gathering, and show my views upon this point. It is a principle I esteem to be of the greatest
importance to those who are looking for salvation.... TPJS pg 83
